Beginning Lyra

This is where you'll begin your journey into the art of Lyra (aerial hoop).  This class focuses on gaining the flexibility, strength, and endurance necessary to hold yourself in the air for increasing lengths of time. You will train your body to safely climb, balance, sit, lay on, twist yourself up in, hang from, invert, and roll around on the lyra comfortably with grace & ease. Practice finding the shapes in your body & in the Lyra. Become confident in your form and in your expression. As you advance you will learn more shapes, transitions, and choreography appropriate to your skill level.


skills you'll need to have before moving into the Intermediate / adv. lyra class will be

1. Good form double knee hang (no arch in back and less than 90 degree angle for knee bend).
2. Able to do the "mermaid" pose.
3. One arm hang minimum 5 seconds
4. Comfortable inverting at the top bar; comfortable and able to hook knee over the span.
5. Comfortable on top of the hoop and able to grip the span (both hands) and hold a dead hang 10sec min.  
6. Able to do a pull over mount.
